About the Role

Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is seeking a full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join a dynamic team of board-certified specialists and critical care experts. This role offers the chance to practise cutting-edge emergency medicine within a supportive, collaborative environment—with a sustainable shift-rotation schedule and a manageable caseload that doesn't burn you out.

You'll be part of Calgary's premier 24-hour emergency department, led by three Criticalists and a Critical Care Resident. The team prioritizes world-class patient care, exceptional client communication, and genuine camaraderie. You'll work rotating shifts that include overnights and weekends, with specialists pitching in on after-hours support to keep the workload balanced and manageable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care, including trauma, shock, and acute medical emergencies
  • Work collaboratively with board-certified specialists in cardiology, critical care, oncology, radiology, surgery, and internal medicine
  • Contribute to a team-based medicine culture focused on mentorship and continuous learning
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet parents, referring veterinarians, and colleagues
  • Participate in mentoring junior veterinarians and developing leadership skills
  • Utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment (digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, CT, mechanical ventilators, on-site lab)

Requirements

  • Valid DVM from an accredited university
  • Previous emergency medicine experience required
  • Completion of an internship program is highly valued
  • Genuine passion for emergency medicine with special interest in trauma and critical care
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, clients, and the community
  • Commitment to team-based medicine and collaborative practice
  • Passion for coaching, mentoring, and professional development
