Veterinary Assistant

About the Role

Pickering Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join their collaborative team—a practice where stability and trust run deep. With clients spanning 30 years and team members who've stayed together over a decade, you'll work in an environment built on real relationships.

You'll counsel and educate clients on animal care topics including medication dosage and purpose, home care, vaccination requirements, and preventative healthcare recommendations. Working under the direction of veterinarians and RVTs, you'll suggest and explain laboratory procedures and testing to help clients understand their pet's care plan. Your calm, confident handling of animals will help them feel safe and secure throughout their visit. This part-time role requires Saturday availability for weekend coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Educate clients on medication administration, home care, vaccinations, and preventative health options
• Explain laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing in collaboration with the clinical team
• Greet, handle, and treat animals with compassion to create a calm, secure environment
• Work under direction of veterinarians and RVTs to deliver high-quality patient care
• Provide weekend coverage, including Saturday shifts

Requirements

• Previous related veterinary experience required
• Availability to work Saturdays for weekend coverage
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle animals with patience and care
