About the Role

An externship at Park Veterinary Centre offers veterinary students a meaningful window into daily practice operations and genuine clinical experience. You'll work alongside associate veterinarians, taking on patient histories, physical exams, diagnostic procedures, dentistry, and surgical assistance — building both clinical and communication skills in a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine.

Most externships run two to eight weeks, depending on your schedule and the hospital's needs. All veterinary students — regardless of class year — are welcome to apply. If you're in the clinical portion of your education, you may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend to support your placement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with supervising veterinarians to gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
  • Assist in developing and implementing treatment plans
  • Participate in diagnostic procedures and dentistry services
  • Observe and assist with surgical procedures
  • Support medical management and patient care under veterinary supervision
  • Develop communication skills through interaction with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

  • Current veterinary student (any class year eligible)
  • Eligible for travel/living expense stipend if in the clinical portion of your education
