About the Role

Island Animal Hospital in gorgeous Nanaimo, BC is seeking a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to join a team that genuinely values professional growth and hands-on learning. Whether you're a new graduate preparing for your VTNE or an experienced RVT, you'll have the opportunity to use your clinical skills to their fullest potential in a practice that celebrates both your development and your compassion for animals.

You'll be involved in all aspects of patient care—from surgical preparation and anesthesia monitoring to patient recovery and hospitalization support. This role offers the chance to build meaningful relationships with colleagues and pet parents while gaining experience across a wide range of companion animal cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surgical preparation, assist during procedures, and manage post-operative patient recovery
  • Conduct physical examinations, patient assessments, catheter placement, and venipuncture under veterinarian supervision
  • Monitor anesthesia during surgical and diagnostic procedures
  • Take and process radiographs and manage pharmacy duties
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient medical records
  • Provide compassionate care for hospitalized patients and support their owners throughout their hospital stay
  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously and problem-solve collaboratively with the team
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills with colleagues and clients

Requirements

  • Completion of a Veterinary Technician/Technologist or Animal Health Technician/Technologist program (or in progress)
  • Knowledge of physical examinations, patient assessment, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiology, venipuncture, and pharmacy
  • Ability to keep detailed and accurate patient records
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and problem-solve independently or by seeking clarification
  • Compassionate care approach and passion for learning
  • Strong interpersonal skills and genuine love for companion animals
  • New graduates with VTNE preparation welcomed and supported
