Work Schedule

The practice is staffed overnight (scheduled shifts for ER/critical care), not on-call standby for students

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity for final-year veterinary technician students to complete their practicum in a dynamic, supportive environment that truly exposes you to the full breadth of veterinary medicine. South Saskatchewan Animal Hospital operates as a GP/ER hybrid — open during the day for general practice and staffed overnight for emergency and critical care — so you'll get hands-on experience across everything from routine wellness checks and ear treatments to urgent care, emergency cases, and intensive patient monitoring.

You'll work alongside experienced veterinarians and RVTs, developing clinical skills in patient care, laboratory procedures, anesthesia, surgical assistance, and radiology. Beyond technical skills, you'll enhance your communication abilities with medical teams and clients — the real-world preparation that sets you up for success as an RVT. Practicums are flexible, ranging from two to eight weeks, so you can choose a timeline that fits your schedule and career goals.

If you're an eligible student enrolled in an accredited Canadian VT program and completing your final practicum in your final year, you can receive a stipend to help cover travel expenses. This support means you can focus entirely on learning without financial stress.
