About the Role
This is your chance to bridge the gap between classroom and clinic. NVA Canada's VT Practicum Program is designed specifically for final-year veterinary technician students ready to apply what they've learned in real-world patient care. You'll work alongside experienced veterinarians and RVTs, developing practical skills across the full spectrum of small animal medicine.
Your days will involve hands-on learning in patient care, laboratory procedures, anesthesia, surgical assistance, and radiology. You'll also strengthen your communication skills working with medical teams and clients—essential preparation for your career as an RVT. Practicums are flexible, ranging from two to eight weeks to fit your final-year schedule and goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care under the direction of veterinarians and RVTs
- Support laboratory procedures and diagnostic work
- Assist with anesthesia and surgical cases
- Perform radiography and imaging support
- Communicate effectively with medical teams and clients
- Develop clinical skills in a hands-on, supportive environment
Requirements
- Enrolled in an accredited veterinary technician program in Canada
- Currently completing your final practicum in your final year of study
- Laboratory experience
