About the Role

Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital is actively recruiting new graduates from Veterinary Technician and Technologist programs to join a supportive, collaborative team in Scarborough. This is your chance to launch your career in emergency and specialty medicine—a fast-paced, dynamic environment where learning is encouraged and mentorship is a priority. You'll work alongside experienced RVTs and veterinarians, gaining hands-on experience in real emergency cases while building the clinical skills that define your career.

Both full-time and part-time schedules are available, with premium pay for night shifts. The practice covers the cost of your VTNE exam and offers in-house mentorship, academic support, and financial assistance to help you achieve registration—removing one of the biggest hurdles new grads face.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing compassionate care to emergency and critical patients under guidance of experienced RVTs and veterinarians
  • Participate in patient triage, monitoring, and basic assessments in a fast-paced emergency setting
  • Support veterinarians and senior technicians during emergency procedures, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Learn anesthesia and sedation monitoring for emergency and referral cases with hands-on training
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples and assist with diagnostic imaging, including radiography
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as directed and within your training level
  • Operate and learn advanced medical and monitoring equipment with mentorship support
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with pet owners during emergency situations
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records under supervision
  • Follow hospital protocols for safety and patient care standards
  • Collaborate with emergency and referral teams to provide continuous, high-quality care
  • Actively participate in training, mentorship, and continuing education opportunities designed to support skill development and professional growth

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program allowing for registration in Ontario
  • Genuine interest in emergency and specialty medicine with enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to adjust routines and responsibilities in a dynamic setting where no two days are the same
  • Excellent communication skills and compassionate approach to client care
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary medical team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of patient care
