About the Role

AprilVets Cambridge is building something special — a brand-new, thoughtfully designed small animal hospital in Ontario's vibrant Cambridge community. This is a full-time opportunity to join an independent, veterinary-led practice that prioritizes both exceptional patient care and the wellbeing of its team. You'll work in a warm, bright facility where every pet, client, and team member feels genuinely valued.

As an RVT, you'll be at the heart of clinical operations, directly supporting the veterinarians and playing a key role in delivering elevated healthcare experiences. The practice is committed to fostering long-term relationships with team members and cultivating a collaborative workplace where your ideas matter and your professional growth is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other clinical procedures
  • Take thorough patient histories and initiate appointments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments under veterinary supervision
  • Perform in-house laboratory work including cytology (ear and skin swabs, blood smears), bloodwork, and urinalysis using Antech in-house diagnostics
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures such as blood work, urinalysis, and radiographs
  • Monitor and record vital signs of animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being
  • Manage surgical patient intakes and discharges with competence and compassion
  • Monitor patients under sedation and anaesthesia, provide post-operative care, and oversee surgical recovery
  • Maintain accurate and organized medical records in the cloud-based practice management system
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical equipment and maintain clinic cleanliness standards
  • Handle animals safely and compassionately in all situations
  • Educate and guide pet owners regarding animal care, treatment plans, and preventive health measures

Requirements

  • Current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) designation (Ontario)
  • Degree or diploma in Veterinary Technology or related field
  • Prior veterinary experience highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
  • Proficiency with medical equipment, surgical assistance, medication administration, and treatments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with clients and colleagues
  • Compassionate nature with ability to empathize and interact effectively with pets and owners
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking ability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Technical proficiency with practice management systems (PIMS experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive work culture
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with veterinary advancements
