About the Role

Orleans Veterinary Hospital is seeking an Associate Veterinarian for a maternity leave contract at a well-established practice that's been serving the Orleans community for over 45 years. You'll be joining a team of seven experienced veterinarians supported by skilled RVTs, veterinary assistants, and receptionists in a culture built on collaboration and respect. This role offers exposure to a diverse range of cases—from routine care to soft tissue surgery, advanced dentistry, and internal medicine cases—all supported by a specialist on staff.

The hospital is fully equipped with modern diagnostic tools including digital radiography with 24/7 radiologist interpretation (within 2 hours), ultrasound, and dental X-ray. Work in a state-of-the-art facility that prioritizes both clinical excellence and team well-being, with flexible 8–10–11.5 hour shifts that actually accommodate your life outside work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive veterinary care across routine examinations, vaccinations, and preventative medicine
  • Perform soft tissue and routine surgeries; dentistry experience is a plus but not required
  • Collaborate with the on-staff specialist and broader team to manage complex internal medicine and advanced cases
  • Build strong client relationships and provide clear, empathetic communication about animal health and treatment options
  • Work with digital diagnostic tools and leverage radiologist support for imaging interpretation
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment where every voice is valued

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of veterinary experience
  • Valid Canadian veterinary licence
  • Ability to remain composed and professional while handling diverse cases and client situations
  • Strong communication and client relationship-building skills
  • Genuine empathy for animals and their owners
  • Flexibility and adaptability to evolving veterinary practices and technologies
  • Collaborative, team-first mindset
  • Surgery or dental experience is a plus but not mandatory
