About the Role
Join a dedicated team at Night Owl Bird Hospital, where your clinical expertise directly improves the lives of birds and their families. This is a full-time position offering exposure to unique avian cases in a supportive, collaborative environment that genuinely values both patient care and team well-being.
You'll conduct thorough diagnostic assessments, develop tailored treatment plans, and provide both emergency and preventive medicine. A key part of this role involves educating bird owners about proper nutrition, care, and wellness strategies—helping them become better stewards of their feathered companions. You'll also have the opportunity to perform and interpret laboratory diagnostics, stay current with veterinary advancements through continuing education, and work closely with RVTs and support staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive animal health assessments and diagnose medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication prescribing and surgical procedures
- Deliver emergency care and preventive medicine to support long-term animal health
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for all patients
- Collaborate with RVTs and support staff to optimize clinic efficiency and patient outcomes
- Educate bird owners on nutrition, proper care techniques, and preventive health measures
- Perform and interpret laboratory diagnostics and sample analysis
- Engage in ongoing continuing education to stay current with veterinary medicine advancements
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
- Valid veterinary licence in British Columbia (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills with demonstrated animal care experience
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and ability to perform and interpret basic lab tests (preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients and team members
- Compassionate, empathetic approach to animal care and client support
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
