Registered Veterinary Technician

About the Role

404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is building its casual RVT pool to support a dynamic 24-hour emergency operation in Newmarket. You'll work varied shifts across days, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight rotations, partnering with different team members and veterinarians on each shift. This is ideal if you're looking for scheduling flexibility without the commitment of a permanent position.

As part of VCA Canada's network, you'll be delivering quality emergency and critical care medicine while helping pet parents navigate stressful situations. Your credentialing and technical skills will be put to use across the full spectrum of emergency cases—from initial assessment through recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Support multiple emergency patient appointments and cases throughout your shift
• Assist veterinarians and technician supervisors with case-dependent tasks and procedures
• Perform sample collection, catheter placement, and laboratory work
• Monitor anesthesia and support critical care and emergency procedures
• Conduct physical examinations and patient assessments
• Assist with surgical preparation and emergency surgical support
• Manage radiology, pharmacy responsibilities, and patient recovery
• Maintain accurate digital medical records
• Adapt quickly between multiple tasks in a demanding environment

Requirements

• Current RVT registration in Ontario
• Proven experience working as a casual or part-time RVT
• Ability to work confidently in a high-pressure emergency setting
• Strong multitasking and organizational skills
• Positive communication and ability to collaborate with diverse team members
• Exceptional client service orientation
• Calm, caring demeanor during stressful situations
