About the Role
Vancouver Animal Emergency and Referral Centre (VAERC) is seeking a Board Certified Veterinary Neurologist to join a thriving specialty referral and 24-hour emergency practice. You'll work alongside internal medicine, critical care, surgery, radiology, and oncology specialists in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with CT, MRI, C-Arm, and full radiographic capabilities.
This is a full-time position with scheduling flexibility determined collaboratively with you. The role offers a genuine opportunity to practice high-quality neurology while contributing to a collegial, team-based medicine culture. You'll engage with referring veterinarians quarterly, mentor junior professionals, and help shape the future direction of the neurology service. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver high-quality care for a diverse range of neurological cases, with focus on optimal patient outcomes
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients about their pet's condition, treatment plans, and progress
- Collaborate actively with specialty services, technicians, and emergency veterinarians using a team-based approach
- Maintain accurate, detailed medical records to support continuity of care and best-practice standards
- Monitor and coordinate appointment schedules with your specialty service administrator, confirming client appointments and prioritizing urgent cases
- Engage with the referring veterinary community each quarter to share clinical knowledge, strengthen relationships, and provide service updates and patient outcome insights
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized Neurology residency program
- Board certification or board eligibility in Veterinary Neurology (ACVIM or ECVN)
- DVM (or equivalent) with eligibility for licensure in British Columbia
- Strong commitment to client-centred, compassionate care
- Demonstrated mentorship and leadership skills with ability to guide junior veterinary professionals
- Positive, collegial demeanour with excellent communication and collaboration abilities
