Veterinary Assistant

About the Role

Amherst Veterinary Hospital is a busy, progressive small animal practice in the heart of Kitsilano/Point Grey serving Vancouver since 1987. You'll be joining a full-service clinic with long-serving staff who genuinely invest in their team's growth. This is a hands-on role where you'll work directly with animals, clients, and the clinical team to deliver excellent care and service.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll counsel and educate clients—under the direction of veterinarians and RVTs—on medication dosage and purpose, home care, vaccination schedules, and preventative health plans. You'll work collaboratively to suggest and explain diagnostic procedures, handle and treat animals with compassion to keep them calm and safe, and greet clients with the kind of service that builds trust. Weekend coverage is part of this role (Saturday availability required), and it's full-time.

Key Responsibilities

• Educate and counsel clients on medication, vaccination schedules, home care, and preventative healthcare under DVM/RVT direction
• Suggest and explain laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing to support clinical care
• Greet, handle, and treat animals compassionately to create a safe, secure environment
• Support clinical and front-desk operations in a fast-paced environment
• Work Saturdays and maintain reliable, consistent attendance

Requirements

• Previous experience in animal husbandry or related veterinary support role
• Demonstrated compassion for animals and strong work ethic
• Ability to multitask and work reliably in a fast-paced clinic setting
• Excellent client service skills
• Saturday availability (weekend coverage required)
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada
