About the Role

Canada West Veterinary Specialists is building a robust Internal Medicine department and seeking a board-certified or residency-trained internist to join their established team. You'll be part of a busy, well-supported department with a strong caseload and access to advanced diagnostic tools including CT, MRI, and flexible and rigid scopes. The team includes excellent technicians, assistants, and a department-specific client communications liaison who help you deliver excellent care without burning out.

Based in Vancouver—consistently ranked one of the world's best places to live—you'll have a practice that actually respects your professional boundaries. The city itself is a major draw: surrounded by the Pacific Ocean with snow-capped mountains in the distance, Vancouver offers year-round indoor and outdoor activities, world-class dining, rich cultural diversity, and easy access to skiing, hiking, beaches, and water sports. Your work-life balance won't be sacrificed for career advancement here.

The role includes evening and weekend on-call duties, but the practice is genuinely invested in making relocation smooth. If you're coming from abroad, they've guided many international doctors through immigration and will provide direct support and a generous moving allowance.

  • Collaborate with board-certified specialists in Oncology, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, and Critical Care on complex patient cases

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
  • Board certification through ACVIM or ECVIM in Internal Medicine, OR completion of an internal medicine residency and eligibility to sit for board examination

  • Strong clinical decision-making and delegation abilities
  • Professional demeanour, positive attitude, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with a genuine desire to teach and mentor others
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Benefits

  • Base salary: $190,000–$225,000 CAD per annum plus production incentive
  • Four weeks' vacation annually

  • Continuing education allowance
  • Professional liability coverage

About the Practice

Canada West Veterinary Specialists is an 18,000 sq. ft. multi-specialty referral and 24-hour emergency facility operating since 1997. The team includes board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, and Critical Care, alongside rehabilitation therapy and in-house reference lab services. The practice is well-established, professionally run, and deeply experienced in supporting international veterinarians through relocation and credentialing.

The hospital is strategically positioned in Vancouver, British Columbia, giving you access to one of North America's most desirable locations for living and working. British Columbia also uniquely allows board-certified European specialists to work under a "Specialty Private Practice" license without additional ECFVG certification—a significant credential advantage for some candidates.
