About the Role

Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto is seeking a second board-certified surgeon to join their established 24-hour emergency and referral practice. This is a chance to use your surgical skills to the fullest in a supportive, balanced work environment. The hospital is actively growing and expanding specialty services to better serve the community.

The role offers flexibility: you can work full-time or part-time hours to suit your schedule. While on-call and evening/weekend shifts are available for those interested, they're not required — allowing you to maintain genuine work-life balance. You'll collaborate with a seasoned, highly skilled surgical team and a board-certified anesthesiologist on staff, plus access to extensive orthopedic instrumentation and two fully equipped surgical suites.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform surgical procedures in a high-volume 24-hour emergency and referral setting
• Work alongside an experienced board-certified surgeon and provide mentorship or collaborative care
• Utilise advanced surgical equipment including Dyonics arthroscopy system, Ligasure vessel sealing unit, and comprehensive orthopedic implant inventory
• Contribute to developing and expanding specialty surgical services as the hospital grows
• Participate in case management within a multidisciplinary team environment

Requirements

• Board certification in Surgery (ACVS or equivalent)
• Valid veterinary licence to practise in Ontario
• Strong surgical experience and technical skills

Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto is a spacious, state-of-the-art 9,000+ square-foot facility offering a comprehensive range of emergency and surgical services. The hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical technology, including Dyonics arthroscopy, Ligasure vessel sealing, digital X-ray, ultrasound, multi-parameter monitoring, and IDEXX in-house analysers, with a CT scanner planned for the near future.
