Join Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre's surgery team as an RVT providing anesthesia support to board-certified surgeons. Full-time, Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, 7 am–6 pm.

About the Role
Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre is seeking a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to support the surgery and anesthesia department. You'll work alongside board-certified surgeons, providing anesthesia management for daily surgical procedures. This is a focused, specialized role where you'll alternate between cases with another surgery technician, gaining exposure to advanced techniques including ventilator anesthesia and epidural administration—both performed almost daily in this high-volume surgical environment.
The position offers flexible scheduling with two shift options: Monday to Thursday, 7 am–6 pm, or Tuesday to Friday, 7 am–6 pm. Be prepared for occasional after-hours anesthesia coverage as needed. This is an ideal opportunity for experienced technicians seeking specialization or VTS-certified professionals pursuing credentials in anesthesia.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage anesthesia for surgical patients, including ventilator support and epidural techniques
- Work closely with board-certified surgeons, assisting with case alternation throughout the day
- Perform pre- and post-operative radiography
- Collect blood samples and other laboratory specimens; submit for analysis
- Support CT scan procedures and assist with imaging
- Maintain accurate, timely patient medical records
- Communicate with clients regarding procedures and consultations
- Book surgical appointments and follow-up rechecks
- Prepare patients for appointments and surgical procedures
Requirements
- Current registration with AHT and eligibility for Alberta Animal Health Technologist (AAAHT) registration
- Demonstrated experience with anesthesia administration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Compassion for animal welfare and client needs
- VTS certification in anesthesia or willingness to pursue VTS credentials welcome
