About the Role

Are you an experienced emergency veterinarian ready to practice at one of Western Canada's most established and well-respected emergency facilities? Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley (AECFV) is looking for locum coverage — a chance to work in a thriving, 24-hour practice serving over 100 referring veterinarians across the region.

Located in Langley in British Columbia's Lower Mainland, this role puts you in the heart of an active lifestyle: mountains for hiking and skiing, freshwater lakes, lush forests, plus easy access to the restaurants, culture, and big-city amenities you'd expect from a Lower Mainland location. You'll work shifts in an award-winning, 8,000-square-foot open-concept hospital with cutting-edge equipment — CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, and a full surgical suite. With a busy caseload and diverse emergency cases every single day, you'll stay sharp on emergency surgeries and critical care protocols.

This is a temporary locum role, perfect if you're between positions, testing out a new market, or simply want flexibility in your schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency veterinary care in a 24-hour setting
  • Perform emergency surgical procedures and stabilization protocols
  • Conduct diagnostic imaging (CT, ultrasound, endoscopy)
  • Collaborate with a team that includes a board-certified internist (starting summer 2025)
  • Manage a high volume of diverse emergency cases
  • Contribute to a culture of mentorship and knowledge-sharing across all staff levels

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience as an emergency veterinarian
  • Proven experience performing emergency surgery
  • Current, unrestricted veterinary licence (restricted licences cannot be supported at this time)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency environment

Benefits

  • Generous hourly rate (locum)
  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • Retirement benefits
  • Paid time off, including sick leave and vacation
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Life insurance

About the Practice

AECFV has been a pillar of emergency veterinary medicine for 27 years. As an AAHA-accredited facility, the practice is continually innovating and expanding. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is particularly proud of its extensive blood bank — one of the largest in Canada — which now supplies blood products to veterinary hospitals throughout BC.

The practice is part of Ethos Veterinary Health (part of the NVA Group), a network of 140+ specialty and emergency hospitals across North America. Within Ethos, you'll find a culture that prioritizes continued education, physical and mental health, and work-life balance. Management understands that sustainable careers require time to unwind and grow. The team operates with a philosophy of respect, kindness, and inclusion — where every staff member's contribution is valued, and peer collaboration on cases is encouraged.
