Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Gain hands-on clinical experience at a supportive NVA hospital in Newfoundland. Work alongside experienced vets, master core skills, and discover what general practice really looks like — with travel/living support included.
About the Role
This externship puts you directly into the day-to-day reality of running a veterinary practice. You'll work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians, building real clinical competency across the full scope of general medicine — from patient histories and physical exams to treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical assistance. It's hands-on learning with real patients, real cases, and real feedback.
Most externships at Baccalieu Trail Animal Hospital run two to eight weeks, depending on your schedule and the hospital's needs. You'll also develop your communication skills working alongside the medical team, support staff, and clients — because good medicine is only half the equation. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend to help offset costs.
