Work Schedule

Schedule includes day shifts (majority), swing shifts, and overnight shifts with premium pay. Full weekends off per month. Not standby on-call, but scheduled shift work.

About the Role

Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency (C.A.R.E.) Centre is looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician to join their Critical Care team. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in a specialty service dedicated to emergency and critical care patients, alongside 4.5 Critical Care Specialists and a collaborative team of 8 technicians and 6 technician assistants.

The role offers a balanced schedule with the majority of shifts during the day, plus some swing and overnight shifts (with premium pay). You'll enjoy full weekends off per month and a genuine commitment to work-life balance. Whether you're working toward your VTS in Critical Care or already board-certified, you'll gain extensive exposure to a rich variety of critical care cases in a progressive, teaching-focused environment. The Critical Care Service works closely with the Emergency Service, providing you with diverse patient cases and collaborative learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to emergency and critical care patients
  • Assist with patient monitoring, diagnostics, and treatment protocols under veterinarian supervision
  • Collaborate with Critical Care Specialists and the Emergency team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes
  • Participate in a teaching-focused environment that supports professional development
  • Maintain the highest standards of animal care and client communication

Requirements

  • Registered with or eligible to register with AAAHT
  • Previous emergency medicine experience
  • Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong commitment to exceptional client experience
  • Flexibility and willingness to work a varied schedule (day, swing, and overnight shifts)
