Veterinary Assistant

About the Role

Don Valley Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join their Don Mills-area team. You'll be the bridge between the clinical team and our clients, educating pet owners on medication dosage and purpose, home care instructions, vaccination schedules, and preventative health recommendations. Working under the direction of veterinarians and RVTs, you'll suggest and explain laboratory procedures, help clients understand their pet's care needs, and handle animals with the gentleness that keeps them feeling safe and secure. This is a full-time role in a practice that values communication, respect, and clinical excellence.

The practice offers flexibility around scheduling — they'll work with you to accommodate full-time or part-time preferences, because they understand life happens outside of work too.

Key Responsibilities

• Counsel and educate clients on medication administration, dosage, and purpose under veterinarian or RVT direction
• Explain home care instructions, vaccination requirements, and preventative healthcare recommendations
• Assist with laboratory procedures and testing, helping clients understand what's being done and why
• Handle and treat animals with compassion, creating an environment where pets feel safe
• Greet clients and provide support to the clinical and client care teams

Requirements

• Passion for animal care and client education
• Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, RVTs, and support staff
• Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to client and animal care
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada

Don Valley Animal Hospital has been a cornerstone of the Don Mills community for over 35 years, located west of the Don Valley Parkway on Lawrence Avenue East across from Shops on Don Mills. The practice offers a comprehensive range of services including internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, nutritional counselling, and behavioural support.
