About the Role

Vet et Nous operates a network of 24/7 emergency and referral centres alongside general practice hospitals across the greater Montreal region and beyond—serving Laval, Montérégie, Laurentides, Lanaudière, Mauricie, and Capitale-Nationale. As a Veterinary Assistant Technician at the Centre vétérinaire Rive-Sud, you'll be the backbone of the clinical team, supporting veterinarians and RVTs through every patient interaction.

Your role is hands-on and varied. You'll assist during procedures, comfort anxious patients, perform animal restraint, prepare surgical instruments, keep treatment areas spotless, and help with laboratory setup. You'll work rotating day, evening, and night shifts, including every other weekend. This is a permanent, full-time, unionized position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and RVTs during minor procedures and routine clinical tasks (blood draws, catheter placement, radiographs, medication administration, injections)
  • Communicate with RVTs about the status of hospitalized patients
  • Perform animal restraint and handling to minimize stress during exams and treatments
  • Clean and maintain consultation rooms, treatment areas, and laboratories to clinical standards
  • Prepare and organize laboratory samples and surgical materials
  • Stock supplies and equipment for surgeries, consultation rooms, and treatment areas
  • Set up and assist with surgical instrument trays and sterilization
  • Support the client services team with phone coverage and patient flow
  • Perform basic grooming tasks (nail trims, ear cleaning)
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to build knowledge and improve client communication
  • Collaborate with RVTs and other assistants to ensure optimal patient care and comfort
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of and comfort handling animals (an asset)
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to work as part of a team
  • Accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability
  • Excellent customer service presence and communication
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Fluent spoken and written French
  • Ability to perform physical labour (lifting, standing for extended periods)
