Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Hands-on externship with a welcoming team that actually mentors. Learn real clinical skills in a supportive environment at Gananoque Veterinary Clinic.
About the Role
Ready to get real clinical experience with a team that genuinely invests in student learning? Gananoque Veterinary Clinic offers externships designed to give you practical mentorship from experienced Associate Veterinarians — not just shadowing, but genuine hands-on learning across the full scope of general practice.
Your externship will typically run 2–8 weeks, depending on your schedule and the hospital's needs. You'll work directly with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in patient history-taking, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical assistance/performance, and medical management. Beyond the clinical work, you'll sharpen your communication skills with the veterinary team, support staff, and clients — skills just as critical as your technical knowledge.
The clinic cares for a diverse patient population: cats, dogs, pocket pets, rabbits, reptiles, birds, and snakes. As part of NVA's three-hospital network, you'll benefit from a collaborative culture built on client relationships and a supportive, friendly team environment.
Eligible students in the clinical portion of their education may receive a travel/living expense stipend — visit the NVA careers page for stipend amounts and program details.
