Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Gain hands-on clinical experience at a supportive NVA hospital in Alberta. Work alongside experienced veterinarians while building skills across surgery, diagnostics, dentistry, and patient care—plus, eligible students receive a travel and living expense stipend.
About the Role
An externship at Park Veterinary Centre offers veterinary students a chance to step into real clinical practice and see how a modern, supportive animal hospital operates day-to-day. You'll work directly with Associate Veterinarians, getting hands-on experience with patient histories, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical procedures, and medical management. Beyond the clinical skills, you'll sharpen your communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients—essential skills that extend far beyond textbooks.
Most externships run two to eight weeks, depending on your schedule and the hospital's needs. Whether you're a first-year student or in your final year, NVA welcomes all veterinary students to apply. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend to support your rotation.
