About the Role

Alta Vista Animal Hospital is seeking a Board-certified or Board-eligible Veterinary Oncologist to join a dynamic 32-veterinarian team in Ottawa. This is a permanent, full-time position at a busy, growing multidisciplinary hospital offering 24-hour emergency services alongside specialty departments including surgery, internal medicine, critical care, neurology, anesthesia, and primary care.

You'll work with a large referral network of over 330 primary care practices, bringing you a challenging and diverse caseload. The hospital is investing heavily in your success—a new 52,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility opens in summer 2025, complete with advanced diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, radiology, ultrasound, echocardiogram) and seven operating theaters. Currently, the 24,500 sq ft facility features a Toshiba Aquilion 64-slice CT, 0.25T Vet MR MRI, Pulsera fluoroscopy, Philips ultrasound, Karl Storz endoscope, and two digital radiograph suites—everything you need for sophisticated oncology work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert oncology diagnosis and treatment planning for referred cases
  • Lead clinical decision-making in complex cases, collaborating with internal medicine, surgery, and critical care specialists
  • Train and mentor veterinary interns and technicians, fostering their development
  • Maintain exemplary client communication and build lasting trust and loyalty
  • Contribute to a supportive team environment grounded in respect and compassion
  • Stay current with oncology protocols, procedures, and emerging evidence

Requirements

  • Valid DVM degree or equivalent, eligible to practice in Canada
  • Board-certified by ACVIM or residency-trained in oncology
  • Ontario veterinary license or eligibility for CVO licensure
  • Leadership skills and positive team player attitude
  • Excellent diagnostic and critical care expertise, including knowledge of ventilation management
  • Strong organizational and pressure-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior staff
