🕐

Work Schedule

Scheduled shifts only: Monday–Friday, 8 am–9 pm EST; occasional Saturday shifts (up to 1 per month) with compensatory weekday off. Not standby/on-call duty.

About the Role

Picture this: you're a board-certified Small Animal Internist, and your office is wherever you choose. IDEXX is looking for remote-based consultants to provide expert guidance on laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and treatment options to veterinary professionals across Canada and the US. This is consultative medicine at its finest—you're the trusted voice on the other end of the phone, helping peers navigate complex internal medicine cases without the pressure of in-hospital patient management.

The position offers genuine flexibility within a structured schedule. You'll work five days a week (40 hours) across Monday–Friday, 8 am–9 pm EST, plus occasional Saturday shifts (up to one per month, with a compensatory weekday off). Consultation service hours are built into these windows, so you're never guessing when you're "on." If you thrive on collaboration, enjoy teaching through discussion, and want to reduce clinical burnout while staying intellectually engaged, this role is worth serious consideration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver live phone consultations on laboratory interpretation, diagnostic testing, and treatment recommendations to veterinary clients
  • Maintain expert knowledge of IDEXX Reference Laboratory tests, specimen handling, specimen requirements, and clinical utility of each assay
  • Provide guidance on IDEXX Point-of-Care (POC) tests, including SNAP, VetTest, CatalystDX, Lasercyte, ProCyte, and related platforms
  • Meet caseload and turnaround time expectations while remaining accessible during regular consultation hours
  • Log consultation details into the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system per protocol
  • Maintain active board certification (Diplomate status) and current DVM licensure in your state or province
  • Attend at least one continuing education meeting annually and stay current with veterinary literature
  • Participate in scheduled team meetings via teleconference and IDEXX educational or organizational sessions as required

Requirements

  • Board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine (DACVIM in Small Animal Internal Medicine or equivalent)
  • Current DVM licence in Canada or the United States

  • Fluency in English (French fluency is a plus)
  • Dedicated, quiet home office space with high-speed internet (minimum 60 Mb/s download, 10 Mb/s upload, hardwired connection)
  • Ability to work scheduled hours (Mon–Fri, 8 am–9 pm EST; occasional Saturdays)
  • Willingness to participate in virtual onboarding and potential travel to Westbrook, Maine for in-person training events if needed

Benefits

  • Starting salary: $140,000–$150,000 CAD annually
  • Annual cash bonus opportunity
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits (Day One coverage)
  • 5% RRSP matching and employee stock purchase plan
  • Continuing education allowance and paid time off for professional development
  • Professional licensing and dues allowance (annual maintenance covered)
  • Pet insurance
  • Mental health resources and employee assistance program
  • Paid volunteer days off
