About the Role

This externship offers clinical-year veterinary students the chance to experience day-to-day practice operations while building genuine clinical competency. You'll work closely with Associate Veterinarians, getting involved in patient histories, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical assistance, and medical management — not just shadowing, but actively participating in the work that matters.

Beyond the clinical skills, you'll develop your communication abilities working alongside the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externships typically run two to eight weeks depending on your schedule and the hospital's needs. Beattie Animal Hospital in Brantford welcomes clinical-year students looking to solidify their foundational skills in a collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations
  • Participate in developing and executing treatment plans under supervision
  • Support diagnostic procedures and dentistry services
  • Observe, assist with, or perform surgical procedures as appropriate to your level
  • Contribute to medical management of patients

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in the clinical portion of an accredited veterinary medicine program
