About the Role
Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is seeking an experienced Internal Medicine Specialist to support its growing specialty team in Calgary. You'll work alongside two established Internal Medicine Specialists, providing consultative care to referred cases and building strong relationships with both pet parents and referring veterinarians. This is a chance to practise collaborative specialty medicine in a well-resourced environment that genuinely values professional growth and work-life balance.
Offered on a part-time or locum basis, this role offers flexibility while keeping you connected to a dynamic specialty practice. The hospital's collaborative culture means you'll have strong support from both your specialty colleagues and the broader team across imaging, cardiology, surgery, critical care, oncology, dermatology, and anesthesia.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist-level Internal Medicine consultation and care for referred cases
- Work collaboratively with two existing Internal Medicine Specialists and other specialty services
- Support referring veterinarians with diagnostic and treatment recommendations
- Contribute to a team-based medicine culture centred on exceptional patient and client care
- Mentor and coach veterinary students along their professional development
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and development opportunities
Requirements
- Valid veterinarian licence for practice in Canada
- Board certification or equivalent specialist qualifications in Internal Medicine
- Commitment to collaborative, team-based veterinary medicine
- Strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, pet parents, and referring veterinarians
- Passion for mentoring and supporting veterinary students and junior practitioners

The practice features advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities, including CT imaging, rigid and flexible endoscopic equipment, multiple surgical suites, in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, and oxygen cages. The team is actively expanding exotic animal services.
