Veterinary Assistant

About the Role

Vancouver South Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to become a key part of their compassionate team. You'll wear multiple hats in this role — client education, patient care, and clinic operations — all while contributing to a calm, respectful environment where animals thrive.

Your day-to-day will include counselling and educating clients (under veterinarian or RVT direction) about medication dosage and purpose, home care, vaccinations, and preventative health recommendations. You'll help explain laboratory procedures and testing to pet owners, and handle animals with the gentleness and confidence that keeps them feeling secure. Front-desk duties include greeting clients warmly, checking them in, and answering incoming calls with a caring approach. On the administrative side, you'll manage mail, draft correspondence, and handle various office tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Counsel and educate clients on medication dosage, home care, vaccination requirements, and preventative healthcare under direction of a Veterinarian or RVT
• Suggest and explain laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing to clients
• Handle and treat animals with care, creating a safe and secure environment for every patient
• Greet clients at check-in with a warm, friendly manner
• Answer incoming calls from current and prospective clients with courtesy and compassion
• Perform administrative office tasks including mail handling (receiving, sorting, distributing, posting), drafting memos and correspondence, and completing reports
