Work Schedule

Role requires schedule flexibility including evenings and weekends, but no on-call standby duty is mentioned. This is scheduled shift flexibility, not on-call coverage.

About the Role

This is your opportunity to step into leadership at an exciting moment. Juno Veterinary is expanding in Toronto, and they're looking for experienced DVMs ready to build and lead care teams at new practices. This isn't about applying for a spot that's open tomorrow—it's about starting a conversation with leadership about your next chapter as a Lead DVM.

As a Lead DVM, you'll be the clinic captain: mentoring associate veterinarians, ensuring clinical excellence, and upholding the Juno Standard of Care. You'll split your time between your own caseload (appointments, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics) and leadership responsibilities—coaching DVMs through 1:1s, reviewing medical records, managing quality, and partnering with Practice Managers on clinic operations and team development. The role demands schedule flexibility, including evenings and weekends.

This is for a veterinarian who thrives in collaboration, sees feedback as fuel for growth, and is genuinely excited about shaping the next generation of compassionate, excellent doctors. You'll be part of a young, growing organization where your voice and presence matter—and where two-way communication isn't just talk, it's core to how they operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your own patient caseload—appointments, procedures, diagnostics, prescriptions, and charting
  • Provide medical mentorship to associate DVMs through regular 1:1 coaching on medicine, surgery, dentistry, member experience, and team communication
  • Shadow appointments and review medical records to mentor and support clinical development
  • Oversee medical quality and safety reporting
  • Conduct annual DVM reviews and development planning
  • Partner with your Practice Manager to support medical efficiency, member experience, and team success
  • Attend regular meetings with your team, other Lead DVMs, the National Medical Director, and clinic leadership
  • Coach and support less experienced doctors and support staff members
  • Develop strong relationships with team members and clients through proactive communication and conflict resolution
  • Actively participate in team meetings to improve overall medical quality
  • Align clinic efforts with Juno initiatives and expand service offerings through continuing education
  • Understand and support basic business needs, metrics, and benchmarks

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of clinic experience in wellness, medicine, surgery, and dentistry
  • Medical competence: diagnosis and treatment of infectious, inflammatory, metabolic, degenerative, physiologic, and environmental disease
  • Urgent care skills: triage and stabilization of urgent/emergent cases before referral
  • Surgical competence in: feline and canine spay/neuter (including mature/large breed), cryptorchid neuter, umbilical hernia repair, mass removals, cystotomy, laceration repair, eyelid surgery, enucleation, and gastropexy
  • Dental competence: charting, radiograph reading, gingival flaps, burring, sectioning, extractions, and closure techniques
  • Comfort with POCUS and abdominal ultrasound (a plus)
  • Strong interest in leadership; previous leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to drive and inspire teams, set clear expectations, and hold others accountable with compassion
  • Skill in addressing conflict and developing individuals through coaching
  • Basic understanding of veterinary business metrics and how quality medicine supports business health
  • Excellent communication skills—clear, compassionate, and collaborative
  • Strong time management: juggle scheduled appointments, walk-ins, urgent cases, and administrative tasks
  • Problem-solving mindset: adapt, troubleshoot, and bring solutions (or escalate thoughtfully)
  • Self-awareness about strengths and weaknesses, with genuine openness to feedback
  • Comfort with change and continuous improvement as Juno evolves
  • Motivated to grow personally and professionally
  • Ability to work solo and with teams, and willingness to pitch in on non-doctor tasks when needed
  • Valid Canadian DVM licence and eligibility to practice in Ontario

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $165,000–$200,000 per year (with potential above this range for exceptional experience and proven impact at Juno)
  • Performance bonus opportunity for additional earnings on top of base salary
  • Role provides clear pathways for professional and leadership growth
  • Continuing education support to expand clinical skills
  • Collaborative, supportive team environment with regular feedback and communication
  • Access to resources and tools to support your development
  • Opportunity to shape and influence the evolution of veterinary care at an innovative, growing organization
