About the Role

Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre (CARE) is looking for a full-time summer contract emergency veterinarian to join a collegial team that treats an exciting and diverse caseload. There's real potential for this to become a permanent position come fall, depending on the right fit.

You'll rotate equally through day, evening, and night shifts and work closely with specialty services to deliver high-quality emergency medicine. The role offers plenty of room to grow professionally—whether through teaching UCVM students and interns, formal mentorship programs, in-house continuing education, or taking on committee positions and other ancillary roles.

The practice is fully equipped with digital radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, in-house lab, endoscopy, CT, and MRI—so you'll have all the diagnostic tools you need to support thorough care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medicine and referral care to companion animals
  • Perform soft tissue surgical procedures and preventative care
  • Offer nutritional advice and client education
  • Work collaboratively with emergency and specialty teams
  • Mentor and teach UCVM students and interns as opportunities arise
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development

Requirements

  • Valid veterinarian licence to practice in Canada
  • Experience in soft tissue surgical procedures, preventative care, and nutritional guidance
  • Commitment to team-based medicine practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with colleagues, clients, and the community
  • Genuine interest in coaching and mentoring students
  • Enthusiasm for continuing education and professional networking
