Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the Role

An externship at Eagleview Veterinary Hospital offers veterinary students a chance to step into real clinical practice and understand what a day in the life of a working veterinary hospital looks like. You'll spend two to eight weeks (depending on your schedule and hospital needs) working closely with Associate Veterinarians, gaining practical experience across the full scope of general practice.

Your days will include gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, developing treatment plans, assisting with diagnostics and dentistry services, observing and assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Beyond the clinical work, you'll sharpen your communication skills by interacting with the medical team, support staff, and clients—essential skills that set great veterinarians apart.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside supervising Associate Veterinarians on clinical cases
• Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
• Assist in creating and implementing treatment plans
• Support diagnostic procedures and dentistry services
• Observe and assist with surgical procedures
• Manage medical care and monitor patient progress
• Communicate effectively with medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited veterinary medicine program
• In the clinical portion of your veterinary education
• Willingness to work in a supportive, quality-focused environment
