About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity for a board-certified surgeon to join the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto as a second surgeon. You'll work in a spacious, purpose-built 9,000+ sq ft facility that's expanding its specialty services and investing in cutting-edge technology. Unlike many emergency hospitals, this role doesn't require on-call duty—though you're welcome to take on emergency shifts if you want extra income or the clinical stimulation. You'll have the freedom to shape your schedule, whether full-time or part-time, and the practice is genuinely open to discussing your individual needs and goals.
The hospital sits in an ideal West Toronto location, just minutes from major highways, shopping, dining, and less than 30 minutes from downtown Toronto—making it easy to balance your professional and personal life. You'll be working with a board-certified anesthesiologist on staff, extensive orthopedic instrumentation and implants, and two fully equipped surgical suites. A CT scanner is coming soon, further enhancing your surgical capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform surgical procedures across emergency, trauma, and specialty cases in a high-volume referral setting
- Lead and mentor as the second surgeon on the team, working collaboratively with a seasoned, skilled surgical partner
- Utilize advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment (arthroscopy, vessel sealing, digital imaging, ultrasound, upcoming CT)
- Contribute to the hospital's growing specialty service offerings and clinical excellence
- Help shape the direction of surgical services as the practice continues to expand
Requirements
- Board certification in surgery (ACVS or equivalent)
- Small animal surgery expertise and experience in an emergency/referral environment
- Valid Ontario veterinary licence
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
